16-10-20015 #GoodYouthPrison

Is there such a thing as a #GoodYouthPrison? What innovative projects are currently being developed worldwide, for youth in conflict with the law? What can we learn from these projects? Is it possible to make these innovations relevant to the situation in the Netherlands? In the #GoodYouthPrison week (12-18 October 2015) these questions are key.

On October 16th at the Forum the kick-off will take place of a Stakeholder Lab with a broad group of professionals that focus on youth in conflict with the law (from policy makers to social workers, directors of youth prisons to professionals working with victims of crime), the youth themselves and innovators like designers, funds and financiers, social entrepreneurs and artists.

#GoodYouthPrison week

In the Netherlands, the public opinion increasingly calls for harsher penalties for youth in conflict with the law. In the sector of work with youth in conflict with the law, progressively sounds that advocate for innovative projects and methodologies are becoming louder, since the established approach does not produce the intended result. In order to involve a larger group of colleagues and interested public in this debate, Young in Prison International asks during the #GoodYouthPrison week (12-18 October 2015) to focus on the problematics of youth in conflict with the law. In this week (on October 16th) we organise the #GoodYouthPrison Forum in the Netherlands, where we focus on innovative projects related to juvenile detention. We ask the following questions: What does a #GoodYouthPrison look like? Are young Dutch detainees sufficiently prepared for a positive return to society? Are there alternatives to a juvenile detention center that produce better results? Can we co-create effective, innovative ideas that can actually be implemented, with young ex-offenders and / or a group of stakeholders?

Innovation with ex-offenders and stakeholders

Young in Prison NL is going to work with with a group of young ex-offenders (Youth Lab) and stakeholders (Stakeholders) on producing viable ideas. For this process a design thinking approach will be used. The results of the Youth Lab we want to present during #GoodYouthPrison Forum to the Minister of Security and Justice. The Forum we will kick-off of the Stakeholder Lab with a broad group of professionals who focus on young people in conflict with the law (from policy makers to practitioners, managers of Judicial juvenile institutions to people from the field of victim), the youth themselves and innovators such as designers, funds and investors, social entrepreneurs and artists.

It is time for innovation. Are you in?
